Susan Cooper is originally from Los Angeles but has lived in Colorado since the 1970s. She received a BA in art and an MA in painting from the University of California in Berkeley where she was influenced by the San Francisco School and leading San Francisco artist Elmer Bischoff. Although she originally trained as a painter, Cooper is known for her large public art pieces created for universities, parks, hospitals, theatres and civic buildings across the United States. Locally, she was a member of Denver’s Light Rail stations design team and created unique benches for each stop. Cooper’s studio work, which explores high relief and two-and-three-dimensions and perspectives, has also been widely shown in California, Colorado, New Mexico, Mexico City and New York.
