The Kirkland holds in its collection many original works by Nan McKinnell; this is a rare opportunity to own an original work by a prominent and influencial Colorado artist.
For over fifty years, Nan and her husband Jim have been exceedingly influential to the many artists who have studied and worked with them in Colorado and abroad. Nan works with functional forms, both thrown and hand built, and finished with glazes and decorative elements drawn from Asian designs. Her pieces tend to be delicate, rooted in simplicity with clean lines and design elements having a definite sense of order.
