Denver’s historic red sandstone Brown Palace Hotel on 17th Street and Broadway was built in 1892 in a pared down neo-Romanesque style, similar to the Chicago style of Louis Sullivan. Its high-ceilinged ballroom was converted to Art Deco-style luxury suites in the 1930s. Donald Deskey, best known for decorating the interior of Radio City Music Hall in New York City, was commissioned in 1936 for this project, completed in 1937. The hotel has since been refurbished.
