The city of Chandigarh, from which this chair originates, was the first modern urban planned city in India. The city was designed by Le Corbusier, Pierre Jeanneret’s cousin and frequent collaborator. Jeanneret was commissioned to design the furniture for Chandigarh’s city and government buildings. Each piece of furniture was designed with the locale in mind and was constructed from local teak wood by area craftsmen.
