Jeff Wenzel was born in Denver, Colorado in 1959. After living in California and Alaska as a child, he received his MA and MFA from the University of California, Berkeley. Wenzel was a teaching assistant for the late abstract expressionist ceramist Peter Voulkos, as well as a drawing and painting student under Elmer Bischoff and Joan Brown of the Bay Area figurative movement. Wenzel’s work has been exhibited nationally and locally, notably at the Arvada Center for the Arts and Humanities 2013 Art of the State, curated by Clyfford Still Museum director, Dean Sobel, and in the 2012 exhibition, Colorado Abstract Expressionism from Kirkland Museum. He taught pottery and ceramic sculpture at Bay Area arts institutions until his 1988 return to Colorado. He now paints and teaches in Denver.
