Pierre Paulin achieved the innovative shape of his Ribbon Chair & Ottoman with a rubber sheeting and foam-rubber upholstery stretched over tubular metal frames and covered with fabric slipcovers. The back, sides and seat of the chair are one continuous piece of covered metal. Though the Ribbon Chair & Ottoman are daringly sculptural, the form cradles the user and provides freedom of position as well as support. Paulin considered the user’s freedom of movement while in the chair to be of the highest importance.
