Eve Drewelowe was born April 15, 1899 to a rural farming family in Iowa. She studied at the University of Iowa and became the first student to receive an MA in art. She met her husband, Jacob Van Eck, at school and they were married in June 1923. When he became the Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Colorado, they moved to Boulder. Drewelowe traveled the world with her husband, sketching and gaining inspiration in places including Russia, Singapore, Korea, Burma, Turkey, Greece and elsewhere in Europe. Back at home she was a founder of the Boulder Artists’ Guild. Drewelowe exhibited widely during her lifetime with solo shows in New York and Boulder and group exhibitions with the National Association of Women Artists, the Nelson Atkins Museum in Kansas City, the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts and many other venues across the United States and in England.
