George Cecil Carter was born October 24, 1908 in Oklahoma and became a noted Colorado abstract expressionist alongside contemporaries including Al Wynne, Mary Chenoweth, Martha Epp and Dale Chisman. Carter worked as a coal miner, gold miner and machinist for 20 years at Schneebeck’s Industries. Carter had no formal training but was mentored by Colorado painter Charles Ragland Bunnell. Carter worked primarily out of Colorado Springs and Cañon City, and exhibited nationally in states including Texas and Illinois. He was invited to a combination of solo and group shows throughout the United States.
