Janet Lippincott, born in 1918 in New York City, grew up in a privileged family and spent part of her childhood in Paris. She was exposed to the major art movements of the time, and became a member of the Art Students League in New York City by age 15. Lippincott enlisted in the Women’s Army Corps during World War II, and would later use the GI Bill to study in Taos, New Mexico at Emil Bisttram’s School of Art in 1949. She continued her artistic studies with brief fellowships at the Colorado Springs Fine Arts Center and the San Francisco Art Institute. Settling in Santa Fe, New Mexico in the 1950s, Lippincott continued to work on her art until her death in 2007. Her landscapes and portraits can be found in the Museum of Fine Art, Santa Fe, State Capital Art Collection in Santa Fe, The Utah Museum of Fine Arts and the Santa Barbara Museum of Art.
