Elizabeth Yanish Shwayder (1922–2022) has created hundreds of sculptures and executed a number of public art commissions in the Rocky Mountain region. She came to Colorado in 1945. Her sculptures have been shown widely in galleries in the United States, England and Italy. In addition to creating artworks, she has been very active in the local art community, serving on the Mayor’s Committee on Cultural Affairs [now the Denver Commission on Cultural Affairs], the Denver Council on the Arts & Humanities [now Colorado Creative Industries] and the Board of Trustees of the Denver Center for the Performing Arts. Her charitable work includes organizing multiple coat and book drives and teaching art to hundreds of Denver Public Schools’ students. This exhibition features 50 highlights from her career.
