Roland Bernier was born in Providence, Rhode Island on February 26, 1932. He was an exhibiting artist, teacher and Air Force Veteran. Bernier received his BFA from the University of Texas and MFA from the University of Southern California. After his MFA he moved back to Texas to teach at the University of Houston and The Museum of Fine Arts, Houston. He briefly moved to New York City and Baltimore before settling in Denver in 1973. In Denver Bernier continued teaching, primarily to senior citizens. He was given exhibitions at the Denver Art Museum and at Robischon Gallery, Spark Gallery and Walker Fine Art among other venues in Denver and beyond. Perhaps his best-known work focuses on letters and words as visual art, which he created for over 50 years. This is an example of his pure abstractions.
