The Kalita Humphreys Theater in Dallas, TX was one of Frank Lloyd Wright’s last completed buildings. Though modified over the years, the 404-seat space used for live plays remains in operation and was declared a Dallas Landmark in 2005.
In 1983 the auditorium was changed to create better sightlines and increase capacity and the original seats, no longer usable, were removed. Metal ‘sled’ bases were added to the frames and it is thought they were reupholstered replacing the original textured, golden-colored fabric with orange at this time.
