Eleanore (Lynn) Zaengle was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on December 26, 1918. After moving to Denver during World War II, she spent many years in the business world as an industrial engineer and in advertising and personnel. It was during this time that she met and married Ray Tillery. Crippling arthritis developed in her hands, and Tillery began sculpting as a constructive form of physical therapy in October of 1968. In 1973, Tillery’s work was first exhibited in Denver and she opened a studio the next year. Her work Child of Peace can be seen at the Museum of Outdoor Arts in Englewood, Colorado. In the 1990s Tillery was forced to stop sculpting due to her worsening arthritis.
