Dale Chisman was born in Denver on August 17, 1943. He received both his BFA and MFA from the University of Colorado and then briefly studied in London, inspired by artist David Hockney. After school he lived in New York for 15 years from 1969 to 1984 and successfully exhibited his work. He returned to Colorado in 1984 for the remainder of his life. Chisman was one of Colorado’s foremost abstract expressionists and helped found the Museum of Contemporary Art Denver (MCA). He found success and acclaim in Denver exhibiting at Robischon Gallery, Pirate Gallery, MCA and Rule Gallery.
