Designer Eero Aarnio (b. 1932, Finnish)

Media metal, foam and upholstery

Dimensions 34 3/4 x 43 1/2 x 25 1/2 inches

Eero Aarnio’s Pony Chair is composed of metal and molded foam in the shape of a stylized pony and covered in orange upholstery. This chair is evidence of Aarnio’s imagination and playfulness. Aarnio is quoted as saying, “A chair is a chair, is a chair…but a seat does not necessarily have to be a chair. It can be anything as long as it is ergonomically correct. A seat could even be a small and soft Pony on which you can ‘ride’ or sit sideways.”
